I think Japanese popular culture has a very strong potential, due to its existing fan base, to exert more of an emphasis on American pop culture. I am just rambling now, but when I turn on the TV, I mostly see reality shows and spin offs. You have Nip/Tuck and its wannabe TV shows, MTV's Pimp my Ride along with Discovery's American Chopper and their copy cat shows and then the island survival/merry a rich guy/gal shows. It just seems pop culture here has really gone to the dogs. Look at Hip-Hop. (OK, now i need to shut up)
But all I want to say is popular TV shows in Japan, including the dramas, games shows with the tarento, as well as Anime offer something that just isn't even being produced here. I would love to even see the formation of a Japanese style Geinojin-class that (are used over and over again) would be somewhere between the the movie celebs and the common folk. I am so tired of watching translated games shows from the early 90s.
Well, there you have it Truth-Lover. |
